Gunnar „Zeke“ Nord is a Swedish artist, he call himself a „ a Painter, a Biker and sometimes a Joker”
He grow up in the darkest corner of Smaland; “where you can´t see the forest for all the trees” just a stonethrow away from Lönneberga, where Astrid Lindgrens Emil carved his wooden figures…
The big forests, the lakes and the endless miles of winding countryroads, was what formed “Zekes World”
He has a special relationship to the forests …”the trees are all around us, they shelter us, and I protect them, we share the light and the air, and we also share the time here on earth”
Music and painting was always a big part of Zekes life. He had during the last twenty years several exhibitions in his hometown Jönköping and also played bass in the bluesband “Blue Raven”
In the nineties he studied graphic design and worked as a writer for some magazines in Jönköping.
As a socialist and anarchist he participated in the progressive movement in Sweden and fought against the establishment.
He has worked mostly with “hard labor” and has always belonged to the workingclass , where he find his public and his critics.
His name ZEKE, comes from a wolfs name and as Herman Hesses “Steppenwolf” he walks his own way in the world.
His art is colourful and peaceful – contrary to what you might expect from an old anarchist!
But – “Chaos is the mother of order” said a famous philosopher once…and from Zekes somewhat chaotic and restless life, emerges harmonic and beautiful paintings. Mostly landscape-oriented, but also abstract work.
Now he lives in Bremen since some years and work as a free artist. A trip now and then to his hometown for work as a LKW-driver help him to keep the contact with his roots.
“What you don’t find in your life, you must create yourself – I need colour, peacefullnes and a little bit of harmony just to survive in this messy world – that’s why I do my paintings”

Gunnar “Zeke” Nord ist ein schwedischer Künstler, er nennt sich selbst “ein Maler, ein Biker, manchmal ein Joker”.
Er ist in der dunkelsten Ecke von Smaland aufgewachsen, wo du manchmal “den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht siehst” - gerade mal einen Steinwurf entfernt von Lönneberga, wo Michsel seine Holzfiguren geschnitzt hat
.
Die großen Wälder, die Seen und die scheinbar endlosen gewundenen Landstraßen sind es, die “Zekes Welt” geformt haben.
Musik und das Malen nahmen immer einen großen Teil von Zekes Leben ein.
Während der letzten zwanzig Jahre hatte er mehrere Ausstellungen in seiner Heimatstadt Jönköping, in der er auch als Bassist der Bluesbank “Blue Raven” spielte.
Als Sozialist und Anarchist partizipierte er in den 60er und 70er Jahren von der fortschrittlichen Bewegung und engagierte sich im Kampf gegen das Establishment
. Er war selbst immer ein Teil der “Arbeiterklasse” und hier fand er auch sein Publikum und seine Kritiker.
In den 90er Jahren hat er Grafik Design studiert
und hat für einige Magazine in Jönköping Artikel geschrieben.
“ZEKE” ist der Name eines Wolfs und wie sein “Alter Ego” in Hermann Hesses Roman “Steppenwolf”, geht er seinen einsamen Weg durch diese Welt.
Seine Kunst ist farbenreich und friedlich – ganz im Gegensatz zu dem, was du von einem alten Anarchisten erwarten könntest.
Aber - “Chaos ist die Mutter der Ordnung” wie schon ein berühmter Philosoph sagte – so entanden aus ZEKEs irgendwie chaotischem und ruhelosen Leben
, harmonische und wunderschöne Bilder; oftmals Landschaften aber auch abstrakte Arbeiten.
Nun lebt er seit einigen Jahren in Bremen und arbeitet als freier Künstler.
Ab und zu kehrt er in seine Heimatstadt zurück, um als LKW-Fahrer zu arbeiten, um den Kontakt zu seinen Wurzeln nicht zu verlierten.
“Was du nicht in deinem Leben findest, musst du selbst erschaffen – ich brauche Farben, Frieden und ein kleines bisschen Harmonie, um in dieser chaotischen Welt zu überleben – darum male ich”
